The full moon shines through the overcast sky, over the deciduous forest’s clearing. Two men are limping out of the forest with one’s arm slung around the other. The howls of wolves are heard far off in the background.

[WILLIAM and EVAN walk into the scene, WILLIAM looks wounded and has his arm slung around EVAN’s shoulder]

WILLIAM
I’m gettin’ tired, can we stop for a moment?

EVAN
[EVAN looks around real quick]
Just a second. Over there, this looks like a good place

[EVAN props WILLIAM next the tree, then takes a seat next to him and pulls a first aid kit out of his backpack]

EVAN
So… what exactly happened?

WILLIAM
This big thing suddenly popped out and bit me.

EVAN
I’m sure there is more to it than that…

WILLIAM
Can’t I tell you after you patch me up?

EVAN
I don’t know, your wounds are pretty deep.

WILLIAM
Fine, I’ll get started. It was about a half hour ago that I pulled over to—

EVAN
Is that bone?

WILLIAM
Be careful, that hurts.

EVAN
Sometimes it has to hurt to get better.

WILLIAM
As I was saying, it was around dusk that I walked over to the old cabin in the woods to see if they had any spare food. I knocked on the door, to see if anyone was home, but no one answered, so I just opened the door and walked in. The floor was dark with blood, and it smelled horrible. It was pretty dark, so I didn’t see the thing right away. It jumped up and bit my shoulder.

EVAN
That’s pretty intense. Maybe you should be more careful about where you beg…

WILLIAM
It scared me sh*tless.

EVAN
Any other wounds you want me to look at?

WILLIAM
I’m good.

EVAN
So, what do you think that thing really was?

WILLIAM
If I didn’t know any better, I’d have to say it was a were-wolf.

EVAN
A were-wolf, are you kidding me? That sounds ridiculous.

WILLIAM
I saw what I saw, and don’t tell me otherwise.

EVAN
Okay, you got bit by a were-wolf, so what. Doesn’t that mean you’ll turn into one?

WILLIAM
I’m not really sure, but if were-wolves are real, the stories might.

EVAN
You hear that?

WILLIAM
What?

EVAN
The howls sound like they’re getting closer.

WILLIAM
[EVAN gives WILLIAM a hand, and helps pull him to his feet.]
Help me up, we gotta get moving.

EVAN
Sh*t, it’s almost here.

WILLIAM
Evan, go grab a stick or something.

EVAN
What about my necklace, it’s silver. Do you think that might work?

WILLIAM
Maybe, just get a weapon, the longer the better.

[The were-wolf strolls onto the stage, like he is on a non-chalant walk.]

EVAN
Who’s there?

WOLF
Nobody, I’m just having a walk through the woods.

WILLIAM
It’s after midnight, you should be at home.

WOLF
Shouldn’t you be at home as well?

EVAN
I don’t have a home.

WOLF
I think I can make some room for you

[ WOLF changes into a part were-wolf and takes a step forward.]

WILLIAM
Oh my god! It’s the were-wolf!

WOLF
Time to finish the meal.

WILLIAM
I’m all skin and bone.

WOLF
Not from what tasted [the WERE-WOLF grins widely and takes a step closer to WILLIAM]

EVAN
[Waving the stick in one hand; holding the necklace in the other.]

Stay back!

[WOLF walks forward and knocks the stick out of EVAN’s hand. EVAN swings the necklace at WOLF, who winces as the necklace lashes his cheek.]

WOLF
[Snarls at EVAN]
Now that was uncalled for.

EVAN
I told you to stay back…

[Thunder strikes in the background]

EVAN
Run away with your tail between your legs, if you know what’s best for you.

WOLF
Not a chance, your friend is half dead, and besides you’ve already seen me, I can’t let you go.

[Thunder strikes in the background again, but this time is much louder.]

WOLF
[Mumbling to himself]
I better finish this up, the weather is getting’ bad.

[WOLF starts walking towards EVAN and WILLIAM. EVAN swings the necklace on its chain in tight circles, once WOLF gets close enough EVAN strikes.]

WOLF
Would you cut that out?

EVAN
Can’t you just leave us alone?

[Lightning strikes a nearby tree, the tree falls, landing between the two groups. One of the branches lands on WOLF.]

WILLIAM
Let’s go, while we have the chance.

[WILLIAM and EVAN exit.]

  2. Just like a horror movie, but usually the werewolves don't talk; do they? Good touch to your play though.
